How to Garden in Balcony Baskets & Planters

Posted by | Education, Gardening, Home Design | 39 Comments

I wish I could say that I have a green thumb. But I don’t. I try. Every year, I try to grow herbs and flowers. Some years I have better luck than others. But this year, it is going to be different! I was fortunate to be able to attend a Petunia Palooza (how fun is that name!) presentation sponsored by Ball Horticulture at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. Ball is the parent company to many companies you may be familiar with like Burpee Home Gardens and Wave Petunias among other partners. (www.ballhort.com)

Posted by | Design, Education, Home Design, Remodeling | No Comments

In my house, remodeling a space is always on my mind. That may mean a small or big project involving the floors, walls, furniture, appliances, lighting, bedding and the list goes on. Over the last couple of years, I have been moving from room to room updating, improving and designing new spaces.  This post is to share a quick lesson on how to choose tile for your stairs.

The entry to my home has stairs that were tiled and then a landing that was carpeted. While the tiles made sense, the carpet definitely didn’t as it accumulated all the dirt from shoes coming in from outside.… Read more

WoodWick Candles

I admit it. I love candles. I burn them all year long. My search for the candle with the best scent, least amount of black smoke, good burn time and fair price is a mission I thoroughly enjoy.

So, when I found WoodWick brand of candles at my local Hallmark store, I was intrigued. What is unique about this brand is that the wick which is wood (thus the name) crackles when it burns giving the impression you are sitting in front of a roaring, albeit small, fire. Lovely.
