Favorite Finds from the International Home and Housewares Show

Posted by | Housewares, Housewares Show, Trade Shows | No Comments

After five days of exploring the 2019 International Home and Housewares Show, I can honestly tell you that I still love going to this show! With more than 60,000 attendees and 2,200 exhibitors, there is so much to see and learn about. The show is held at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center in three of its enormous halls.

What never ceases to amaze me is the creativity of products shown. Yes, all the major brands are there but so are small, soon-to-be-well-known (in my opinion) companies from all over the world. If you have ever wondered how a product comes to life, consider that someone had a need and made it happen.

In this children’s movie, a teenage boy named Ben wins a competition where the prize is a fully automated home that can ultimately take care of itself. To Ben, this home means his dad will not have to re-marry. However, in typical movie, Ben’s dad falls in love. Ben, feeling betrayed, tampers with the smart home’s computer program and causes it to try to take over. Spoiler alert, the movie has an all-around happy ending.

When I first saw this movie way back when, I was in awe of the idea of an automated, or “smart,” home.… Read more

The Secret of the Weber Grill Restaurants

Posted by | Housewares, Restaurants | 21 Comments

Everyone has heard of a Weber Grill, but few know the iconic history behind the company and how it changed the grilling game forever. This true American story takes place right here in Chicago in the early 1950s with George Stephen Sr. as the protagonist.
