Need inspiration for your home build or remodel, then visit the Merchandise Mart – LuxeHome: Premier Interior Design Resources For Your Home
Here’s my truth. I love looking at home design. Walking through showrooms, looking at magazines and of course, my addiction to HGTV episodes. If I could redecorate every room in my home, I would do that. I think that is such a cool part of the job of an interior designer. They don’t just have one room in a house to design but have lots of clients who each have their own style that they need to consider. I am fascinated by the talent that designers have to take a blank space and create the environment that reflects someone’s personal taste. How do they do that?!
Well, one way they get ideas is by using resources made easily available to them and to us as consumers. In Chicago, you may have heard about the Merchandise Mart. An enormous building filled with commercial office space, restaurants, retail and businesses. On the first floor, is an area called LuxeHome. It is a collection of 30 high-end boutiques that provide builders, designers and consumers with a wealth of expertise on subjects relating to the industry. Some categories that you will find talented professionals include:
- Kitchen Design
- Kitchen Remodeling
- Pantry Design
- Sustainable Design
- Bathroom Design
- Customer Bathroom Vanities
- Custom Cabinet Doors
- Windows
- Flooring
- Appliances
- Lighting
While I have been to many of the showrooms in my constant desire to improve my design knowledge (and home!), I recently had the opportunity to be educated on a number of the showrooms by the brands themselves. I was even invited when a global multi brand appliance showroom was launching. Kitchen design is seriously a happy place for me!
Here are some of the showrooms that I was able to spend time at:
Pella Crafted LuxuryWindows are just windows, right? No! I was amazed at all I learned in how windows are made, how they can be a part of the design elements in a room, how shape is possible, innovative locations for windows (seriously, why did I never think of this before!) and how technology plays a part in window operation.

You will never look at your bathroom the same after seeing the gorgeous faucets, showerheads, vanities and tubs found in this showroom.

There are so many choices when it comes to kitchens! I wouldn’t have even thought about windows! Thanks for sharing!
It definitely can be overwhelming but the ideas available to us is just so much fun! Thanks for comment!
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to renovate my kitchen! Cooking is so much more fun in a beautiful kitchen!
Totally agree! Thanks, Jenn.
I genuinely dislike shopping and browsing which is bizarre as I love looking around kitchen showrooms.
Would be lovely to renovate our kitchen, what we really want though is a much larger one, we could knock through wtih the dining room but it’s such a big project, I’ve been putting it off for years!
I totally understand the thought of doing the remodel! It can be overwhelming. I try to think about the outcome! Thanks.
These kitchens are beautiful! I can’t wait until I get to redo my own kitchen, with my food photography and videos in mind. I love those giant square lights! What a neat experience.
Thanks, Michelle! My wish list is so long now!
