The longer we stay quarantined, the more creative I am getting with ingredients. Or at least that is what it seems like! Usually, I am at the grocery a couple times a week without really considering what I already have at home to work with. So when a sweet craving kicked in and no grocery run happening, I began looking at what I have available and found a quick recipe to share for Easy Crescent Roll Cinnamon Rolls.

Making traditional cinnamon rolls is all about the layers of butter and dough. And time. But when you feel like a sweet treat without all the effort of making the pastry from scratch, using prepared ingredients is a total time saver.… Read more

Roasted Squash and Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich – Taking advantage of my favorite fall foods to make a sweet and savory grilled cheese sandwich.

This is my favorite time of year. I love the slight chill in the air, being able to wear sweaters and boots (I mean, fall fashion is just the best!) and of course, the food! Apples, squash, soup, all so good. When I was young, my Mom would take me to the local apple orchard and we would pick apples, shop the farmer’s market and enjoy hot cider.

When it comes to the apples themselves, everyone has an opinion.… Read more

Fall is my favorite time of year. Cool temperatures make for the perfect climate to make soup. Who ever said preparing soup has to be complicated and time consuming hasn’t cooked with me.  First of all, I don’t have time to spend hours in the kitchen. Honestly, I wish I did have the time because the opportunity to invent recipes for fun is just my ideal way of relaxing. But, I digress because that is not my world.

How to Buy Fresh Eggs

Posted by | Education, Foods, Healthy | 10 Comments

How much do you know about the eggs you buy at the grocery store? I will admit to knowing not nearly enough! I thought words like “farm raised” and “healthy” were what I needed to hear. That is until I learned about a company called Blue Sky Family Farms and their philosophy on caring for the hens that provide us with the eggs we eat.

Their tagline, which truly is represented in how they do business, is “Ethical Eggs for the Humane Race”. With a 120-acre homestead in Port Washington, Wisconsin, Blue Sky Family Farms raise hens that live naturally with plenty of room to roam, enjoying the fresh air, green grass and sunshine.… Read more

How to Garden in Balcony Baskets & Planters

Posted by | Education, Gardening, Home Design | 39 Comments

I wish I could say that I have a green thumb. But I don’t. I try. Every year, I try to grow herbs and flowers in balcony baskets. Some years I have better luck than others. But this year, it is going to be different! I was fortunate to be able to attend a Petunia Palooza (how fun is that name!) presentation sponsored by Ball Horticulture at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. Ball is the parent company to many companies you may be familiar with like Burpee Home Gardens and Wave Petunias among other partners.
