These are ideal for giving as hostess gifts whether you wrap them in decorative cello bags or find a pretty plate to put them on. In fact, many times I will find plates that have a decoration on them that is either seasonal or fits the personality of the hostess to leave with them. If I am attending a number of different parties, then finding dessert or appetizer plate sets (they typically come in sets of 4) works great.… Read more

How to Choose the Best Pepper Mill

Posted by | Housewares, Kitchen Design, Kitchen Tools, Pepper, Recipes, Seasonings | 5 Comments

Salt and pepper. The two ingredients in just about every recipe. The key to using pepper in a recipe is having a pepper mill with strong grinding capabilities. Have you ever bitten down on a chunk of peppercorn that hasn’t successfully been ground down enough and your whole mouth is now on fire – let alone how your tooth is feeling? Ouch.

When it comes to certain kitchen tools, sometimes you need to spend a bit more to have quality materials so the equipment or gadget will do a great job on the task it is assigned. In this case, we are talking about the grinders used in pepper mills.… Read more

Sabra Hummus & Dip Recipes

Hummus. That creamy, slightly tangy dip made with garbanzo beans (aka chick peas) that go great with pita chips. So delicious and filled with protein and other healthy ingredients. I had the very good fortune to work with the Sabra Hummus people recently who offered me the opportunity to learn more about their products. This was definitely a fun experience using all my creative cooking skills as I am all about coming up with innovative ways to use products.

Artisan Bread Making: Brotform Baskets

Posted by | Bakeware, Bread, Healthy, Housewares, Le Creuset, Recipes | One Comment

Does the smell of fresh bread make you stop in your tracks to see where it is coming from? I love fresh bread in any format – plain, with butter, in a sandwich, used to dip in olive oil and grated Parmesan cheese, and on and on. I am a novice, though, at bread making. I shared with you in a previous post, the method I have been using with a no knead bread recipe, baking the bread in a Le Creuset Dutch Oven. (https://inspiringkitchen.com/homemade-bread-le-creuset/) Well, I was recently offered an opportunity to use a Brotform basket to make homemade bread and decided to give it a try.… Read more

Apple Season is here: Apple Tatin Dessert

Posted by | Bakeware, Dessert, Fruit, Housewares, Recipes, Seasonal | 33 Comments

We are going into that time of year where there is a slight chill in the air, trees are beginning to change their colors, and apples are plentiful. In my family, the number of ways to include an apple in a recipe is really limitless and totally up to your creativity. For a sweet treat, I like to make an Apple Tatin dessert that is loved by all for its simplicity and pureness of crisp apple flavor.

After many trials, I have determined that using a jellyroll pan is the best style of bakeware for this recipe. The shallow sides allow for the heat to move around the dough baking it evenly with the added bonus of easy removal from the pan without breaking the pastry.… Read more

Posted by | All-Clad, Grilling, healthy eating, Housewares, Le Creuset, Lodge, Recipes, Sandwich, Vegetables, Vegetarian, Weber Grill | 19 Comments

I love to grill. Vegetables. Yes, there it is. Not gourmet but so delicious! One of my favorite sandwiches is super easy and very customizable as you can see from comments on Inspiring Kitchen’s Facebook page. (https://www.facebook.com/inspiringkitchen). What works so well with this dish is being able to have friends over and everyone gets to make their own personalized sandwich varying with the choice of filling. What I will typically do is have a platter of all different kinds of vegetables (colored peppers, onions, zucchini, squash, eggplant, tomatoes, fennel,  etc), sauces, spreads (salsa, pesto, sun dried garlic paste – yum!), cheeses and even meat for those who want it.… Read more

Don’t you just love this time of year when the sun is out, grass is green, fresh ingredients are plentiful and everyone is enjoying the opportunity to spend time together outside? Well, living in the Midwest means I take advantage of any chance to do what I love to do: entertain friends with delicious dishes and even better, cocktails outside on the deck. Thanks to Beso Del Sol, I was able to introduce their new Sangria to my friends.

But running to the bakery just doesn’t fit into your schedule and making it from scratch is well, way too hard. Right? Wrong!

The Chef from the cookware manufacturer, Le Creuset, shared this delicious recipe with me. It is so easy to make. Plus, once you make it the way the recipe says the first time, you will find yourself being creative and adding herbs, seasonings or fruit like rosemary, basil, garlic, tarragon, cheese, cinnamon, or raisins to your next batch.… Read more
