Making a house a home is the beauty of home ownership to me. It is also a constantly evolving process as needs and trends are always changing. A recent project was to update a bathroom without actually replacing the countertop. Thanks to Marble Dreams Resurfacing Kit by Daich Coatings, I was able to easily redesign the space with a modern feel.

Directions
Daich does a great job of offering directions in different formats. They offer instruction sheets in the kit, on their website and videos that walk you through the project.
I read the directions multiple time to look for timing that goes with each product and step, tips on how to apply the product, what tools to use for each product, and any other guidance that would make this process easier and more successful.
Daich provides a chart that shows the approximate time needed for each step.
Day 1 Timing: 3 hours
- Clean the countertop thoroughly.
- Marble Base Coat
- Marble Veins
- Marble Top Coat
Day 2 Timing: 2 hours
- Protective Top Coat
Note that it took me longer as I played around with different looking veins until I arrived at a design I liked. Overall, the project took me 3 days which resulted in a look that I liked.
What I found really helpful were the specific directions on how to do the marble techniques. The swirls to make the veins look authentic. The effects when using the different tools and sponges were also beneficial.
But most of all, I learned that there really is no right or wrong in how the design looks. There are ways to correct your patterning if it isn’t what you want it to be by using some water to lighten or blur the paint, for example.
My Project
After thoroughly reading the directions multiple times (as stated above), I washed the counters to get any dust or residue off and dried completely. I made note of the specific step, paint number and timing that I would need to keep track of on a piece of paper to keep me on top of everything.
I taped off my faucets as I wasn’t removing or replacing them. It makes it easier to clean up this way than trying to get paint off the metal once the project is complete. Since my countertop was all in one with the sink, I only painted the countertops with the marble design. Technically, these products aren’t intended for the sink where there is water and liquids that could affect the adhesion of the paint. If you want to try it, there is a product called ElastoLock that you can put on the sink before the paint layers go on so that may help strengthen that paint stage. Just want to give you a little notice on this one although I haven’t tried it personally.
Once the base layers went on to the counter, I began thinking about how I wanted the marble veins and coloring to look. I looked at photos of marble countertops and even saw some in person to get an idea of what I wanted.
All done! And it looks great. I am so pleased with the marble look of the countertop. I refreshed other decor items in the bathroom to finish off the project.

This is such a good idea. I am in the same situation of needing to do an update but not ready for the commitment. Will have to investigate this option for our bathroom and laundry room. Thanks for the education. Nice work.
