Create Your Wedding Registry Part Two

Congratulations on your wedding and engagement! Such an exciting time in your lives! Last week, we started our discussion on what items you should consider adding to your wedding registry. It is very easy to get carried away when you walk into your favorite stores and are given a scanner or are using your cell phone along with the store’s app to zap away at anything and everything. A registry is your wish list after all. However, it is important to be strategic when doing your registry.

There are a number of important points to keep in mind when registering as are mentioned on Inspiring Kitchen’s wedding menu as well as throughout my previous post on registering.

It’s hard to think big picture but you will be so glad in the long run. I have been asked how Inspiring Kitchen’s service is different from going into a retailer and registering there. It’s a great question. When you fill out the “paperwork” — digital or hardcopy, you will be given a list of items the retailer is suggesting you include on your registry. Makes sense, right? However, this well-intended guide is what is given to anyone who is registering. There is nothing personal about it. You may be fresh out of school and registering or you may have been living with your significant other for years when you decide to create a registry. Your idea of cooking may be making salads while the other couple may be ready to compete on Top Chef! Same registry guidelines given to you by the store. Their intent is good but one size does not fit all when it comes to doing your wedding registry. That is where Inspiring Kitchen comes in. Our mission is to help you build a registry that is truly a representation of you and your current and potential needs.

Let’s get back to finishing off that registry. Believe it or not, I don’t think you need a million cooking tools to help you be a great cook. There are some basics though that really do make a difference in help you to have a better experience in the kitchen.

1) Kitchen Tools: There are a zillion fun kitchen gadgets these days. Have you seen the banana slicer gadget?! But really, if you have good knives (described in previous post) and the tools below, you will be ready for any cooking or entertaining related activity.

  • Wooden spoon(s)
  • Silicone spatula(s)
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Stainless tongs
  • Colander
  • Kitchen shears
  • Ice cream scoop
  • Microplane/grater

2) Electrics: Choose those that fit your style. Super busy life? Try a slow cooker so you can have meals ready for you when you get home from work. So easy! Spend more time with your partner by making your own espresso or coffee. Plus, you will save enough money to plan a vacation. Into healthy eating? You probably already know about drinks made in blenders or juicers. You have all the control over the contents this way.

  • Blender
  • Coffee/espresso
  • Slow cooker
  • Toaster
  • Stand mixer
  • Food processor
  • Juicer

3) Linens:  Trust me, you will want hot pads when you bring that hot pan or pizza out of the oven. And now that you have gotten rid of the disposable plates, time to do dishes. Those towels will help finish the job.

  • Kitchen towels
  • Hot pads/mitts
  • Extra: tablecloth, napkins

4) Grilling tools:  In any season, grilling is the best way to bring together good food and friends. Depending on where you live, you may have access to a wider variety of grilling equipment as warm weather climates have products displayed year round. Some great gift ideas include registering for a grilling set that will have just about all the key tools you will need to grill.

  • Long grilling tongs
  • Long grilling spatula or flipper
  • Basting brush
  • Grill pans — fry, rectangular, wok, cast iron, pizza

5) Cookbooks:  Whether you are learning to cook (The Joy of Cooking), want to make dishes from Chefs from the Food Network (Bobby Flay, Barefoot Contessa), looking for ethnic or vegetarian recipes or are totally into baking, having cookbooks are a simple method of support.

In the end, choosing the items for your wedding registry is based on how you want to cook, maybe not at this moment (no time, kitchen too small), but in the future. Think five years down the way when registering for items that have the potential to last forever (good cookware and knives). Take the time to learn the differences between products and brands as there are things to take into consideration. For example, cooking in non-stick is a different outcome than cooking in stainless steel. If all of this seems like a bigger project than you anticipated, let Inspiring Kitchen guide you in designing a wedding registry that is personalized for your cooking and entertaining style. And congratulations again on your engagement!

My fiance and I walked around Best Buy yesterday saying how much we liked X Y & Z and then I was like, OH SNAP! We should be taking notes! I created a registry at Amazon.com and I added some of the items we liked to the list! HA HA! A sexy Ninja Blender… A Rice Cooker… An Air Fryer because it’s super cool and a Dyson Vacuum so far! haah!

  • Heather says:

When we registered we really didn’t think it through. I wish we had opted for the essential practical items 🙂

  • Paula Schuck says:

These are great tips! Finding a place to register isn’t super hard. Deciding what you should register for IS!

  • Pam says:

Linens are so important and so many people forget to register for them. Seriously, you don’t want to end up without towels.

  • Fantastic tips! I well remember the wedding registering. Stressed me out…until I did a baby registry. That REALLY stressed me out LOL

  • Ann Bacciaglia says:

These are great ideas for your wedding registry. Kitchen products are a popular gift idea.

  • Rosey says:

Dish towels are a good one to have on the list. Those are something you want a nice quality of, and bridal gifts are always nice in that department. 🙂

  • robin rue says:

My husband and I lived together before we got married, so we didn’t need to register for a heck of a lot 🙂

  • Joanna says:

That is a very useful post. I think most of the people don’t think of what they really need and then end up with a lot of things that they will never use.

  • Amy Jones says:

I’m about to move in with my boyfriend so this post is really helpful, thanks a lot

  • Stephanie Ortez says:

I remember the headache of planning a wedding. These are great tips for brides-to-be, you don’t want to go overboard about prices, but also it is important to know what item you really need. Kitchen tools are always a must! 🙂

  • These are great tips. I will have to forward this post to my friend who just got engaged.

  • tp keane says:

you know I wish I did a registry for my wedding. We got a million toasters and a thousand pots, but no cutlery lol.

  • We never did a registry because no one bought gifts. It was just us and family.

  • Tina says:

These are great ideas for your kitchen registry! Remember to think into the future: the hot pads will wear out and the dish towels won’t fit your new color scheme. If you choose brand-name, quality appliances they should last for many years. I still have gifts I received almost 40 years ago! Have Fun!

    • Inspiring Kitchen says:

You are absolutely right. At least the replacement of towels is not too expensive though. And congrats on 40 years of marriage!

  • The Joy of Cooking is such a great first cookbook for newbies. The internet is a wonderful place to find recipes but if you have no idea what you are looking for it is useless. The Joy of Cooking teaches the basic.

  • Registries can easily be overwhelming. I did not do weddings registries but I have purchased from them. I had a few that I think just went through the stores and picked anything they walked by lol.

  • Elizabeth O. says:

This is very useful for newly engaged couples! I like that most of this are stuff that they’re going to need in their new home. This is definitely something they should take note of.

  • I like that everything is practical, registry is complex but I am glad you could make it clearer for us.

  • Nicole Escat says:

This is so helpful, I will keep this in mind. I don’t want to receive the same gifts from two different people. Gift registry is cool.

  • Chris says:

Being engaged for 10 years and having two kids already, now think we should actually set a date!

  • Nikki Jenner says:

I remembered a wedding of my old friend, she got two gifts that are the same and I think that’s horrible, good thing there is gift registry.

  • My cousin is getting married in October. Will send this to her, I hope she takes your advice and thinks bigger picture.
Great post, the items you listed are fantastic. Hahaha I know when I get married I’ve definitely learned something from this.

  • Jenjen says:

    Thumbs up for this tips!

  • Lexie Lane says:

Gift registry is so nice, it is great to receive things that you really like. For me, electric items are my favorites.

  • victoria says:

Such a great wedding registry. I would tell this to my friend was planning to have a wedding.

  • Amer Phils says:

Wow that table arrangement is beautiful! I have 3 weddings to go to this year.

  • Great ideas! This can be so stressful moment

  • Kathy says:

My husband and I actually got married in court. We never had any receptions or anything like that. Sometime down the road I may have a real wedding, but Idk yet. I think registries are great for those that have a reception though. It’s a great way to make your own list of what you need/want.

  • These are great tips. I will have to share this post with my friend who just got engaged.
