Time is of the Essence. Every 67 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s disease. That’s a scary statistic. As someone whose family has been affected by Alzheimer’s disease, this cause is very close to my heart. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many doctors, researchers and the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association, we are seeing progress in better understanding this disease.
At last night’s “Time is of the Essence” Rita Hayworth Gala Kick-Off Party, more than 150 guests enjoyed the culinary talents of Chicago’s top chefs while celebrating the 29th anniversary of the Gala. Brian Enyart and Jennifer Jones Enyart from Dos Urban Cantina, Ryan Pitts from RL Restaurant and Paul Virant from Vie Restaurant and Perennial Virant offered their specialties of the evening:
From Chef Paul Virant:
Smoked Carrots, Creamed Spinach, Aillade
From Chef Ryan Pitts:
Beef Short Rib Burger, Truffle Aioli, Butterhead Lettuce
From Chefs Brian Enyart and Jennifer Jones Enyart:
Sweet Corn Tamal with Roasted Tomato Salsa and Charred Parmesan
And Chocolate Cake (note that this cake’s name is so oversimplifying the depth of chocolate in this cake!)
The Kick-Off Event was held at the Jenn-Air Master Class Studio located in the Reid Murdoch building in downtown Chicago. Jenn-Air is a sponsor of the Gala making this choice of location very special.
The spring Gala will be held on Saturday, May 7, at the Chicago Hilton Hotel. Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, Rita Hayworth’s daughter, will once again serve as the general chair of the event. Over 800 guests will attend this fabulous evening, starting with a cocktail reception with the high-energy Cover Girls violin show; three-course dinner, program, auctions and live music by Orchestra 33, will keep everyone celebrating all night long. The list of raffle and silent auction items are must-haves on your “want” wish lists.

We look forward to seeing you on May 7th!
This sounds like a wonderful event for a wonderful cause. Alzheimers is such a horrendous condition. I can’t even imagine.
What an awesome campaign. Alzheirmer’s disease is a horrible illness. I am happy that there are movements like these to raise awareness and funds to be used for research
Thank, you, Annemarie! Me too!
Such a wonderful idea. I love how it is going to a really important cause. I hope it turns out to be a huge success.
Thank you!
What an awesome sounding event, my Gran developed alzheimers, it was awful seeing her no longer know who you were or forgetting facts and asking where Grandad was.
Sarah, I am sorry that you have dealt with this in your family as well. We need research and support which is why I volunteer to raise money and awareness. Thank you for your message.
Sounds like a great event. My uncle that I visited in London suffers from Alzheimers and my aunt certainly has her hands full. One day he’s just his jolly self and the next, he has no idea what’s going on. He has a caretaker who comes in to look after him during the day but it’s tough. 🙁
I am so sorry to hear that your Uncle is suffering from Alzheimer’s. It is indeed a very sad thing for family members to watch which I know personally. That is why I chose to volunteer for this organization. There is progress which I am grateful for. But we need more which is why these events matter so much. Thanks for your message.
What a great event! Alzheimers is such a terrible disease.
This looks like a wonderful event. I think it is so important to raise awareness and funding for Alzheimer’s disease.
Oh my goodness. I’d never want to eat my cooking again if I was here experiencing this food. 🙂
