The big day arrived here in Chicago on Saturday, March 15, as anyone playing any role in the housewares world arrived in Chicago for the 2014 International Housewares Show held at McCormick Place. Retailers, big and small, came to see what exciting new products they could share with their customers. Manufacturers of everything from cookware to kitchen utensils to electrics to dinnerware to glassware to storage materials and beyond all came to display their wares. The show was full of energy and creativity which made walking my first day a little easier as I hit more than 19,000 steps per my pedometer.

The vast array of items makes it challenging to narrow down all that I saw but here is a short list that will hopefully entice you to go check out your closest kitchenware stores to see the items for yourself.

If you are an espresso fan, you already know about Nespresso machines. If you are actually a coffee fan, you need to go to a store that sells Nespresso machines as their new coffee machines called VertuoLine have the most delicious coffee varieties. You can choose the pods based on the strength of coffee you prefer. The other big advantage is this machine will make you an espresso or a cup of coffee! It will read the bar codes on the pods to determine the appropriate amount of water for each cup. So easy to solve when you have different preferences in your home. Certain stores even offer you the chance to try the coffee made in these machines. Easy one cup servings for your home and office. http://www.nespresso-us.com/vertuo/machines

Bright, fun and colorful works of art drew me into the French Bull booth. The dinnerware and serving pieces seem like a great addition to a household for casual dining whether indoors or outdoors, with or without children. Made of melamine or porcelain means easy to take care of when entertaining guests or for everyday use. Check out their designs at http://www.frenchbull.com. It will make you smile.

As someone who loves and appreciates beautiful cookware, Mauviel 1830 has created a gorgeous new line called M’elite. Known for copper cookware, they have designed this multi-ply 18/10 stainless steel line with a polished and hammered exterior and is perfect for going from the cooktop to oven to table for serving. And, did I say how stunning it is? Wow! See it for yourself.

And finally, if you read the “About” section of this website, you may have noticed that I reference how excited I get when going to this show and seeing the vast assortment of colored spatulas. Well, here is a perfect example of what makes me happy. Spin the wheel of spatulas. How fun is that?!
